Coffee Date + Girl Behind the Blog

IMG_8024 It’s been a while since I last posted a vlog. And by “a while” I mean six months. Vlogging isn’t my thing, obviously.

Today I’m joining Alissa at Rags to Stitches and Ashley at 5oh Wifey for a combined Coffee Date + Girl Behind the blog. We were given a prompt, which I sort of ignored took in my own direction. The prompt was what have you gained from blogging?

When I read the prompt last week I immediately thought about three really important lessons that I’ve learned through blogging. And throughout the week, as I was preparing to record the vlog, I somehow turned the prompt into: what lessons have you learned through blogging? And I kind of went with that. Sorry Ashley and Alissa.

New Year/New Goals Q & A with Mama Marchand’s Nest

Connect on Twitter

ARD: Do you view January as a time to start fresh? Make new, or revisit old, goals?

Absolutely! I love January for that very reason. I have decided to make just three goals for myself this year but they’re BIG ones. The first is the scariest – to lose fifty pounds this year. The second is to read twenty-four NEW books – two a month. The third is to learn how to crochet. I’ll be blogging about all three!

  1. I love it that so many of us are talking about the friendships that we’ve made through the blogging community. =)
    Your teacup is cute..
And now, after having watched your vlog with it’s great sound quality and clarity, I think I”m going to bite the bullet again and use my dslr next time. I’ll just have to figure out how to shrink the file down for a faster upload. Hahaha

    • Amanda says:

Well it took *forever* to load. Like, 3 hours to get it on youtube. So I need to figure out how to shrink it or something. Any suggestions???

The teacup is from World Market. :)

I love your heart Amanda. I love your genuine words and your heart to really encourage and inspire others! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I am living a story that someone else right, as well. It’s a good perspective to have.

  3. I just love how God uses our stories, to help us be more faithful and to help others. I am so thankful for how you do share your story, your heart.

    • Amanda says:

Thank you Katie. I’m finally in a place where I’m willing (and even eager) to let God use my story to somehow bless others. Thank you for your encouragement!

  4. Joanna says:

You’re just too adorable. You’ve got such a sweet voice and spirit. Not at all the smart-alec vlogs that come out of my place. Love it.

    • Amanda says:

Well, I can be quite sarcastic when I speak, but that rarely comes out in my writing. I have no idea why! (Though sometimes it shows up on twitter…but not often!)

  5. Nice vlog:) Your christian blogging leadership is helpful to me as a newbie. So thanks!

  6. I don’t think I’ve ever heard your voice before and I love it! So calm, feminine and soothing! AMEN to true friendships being made through blogging…wow! Sometimes I find myself going to my blogging buddies before I go to my “IRL friends”. And the Lord IS writing a story for your life and I love that blogging has allowed you to share it

    • Amanda says:

HAHA! I suspect my mom and husband would laugh at that description of my voice. I had to force it to be calm (because I was nervous) and along with the nerves comes a higher pitch than I normally speak with!

And I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I contact my blogging friends first too.

  7. Amy says:

I’m totally with you on #3. God writes my life and has equipped me to share what I have experienced. I put off writing for YEARS, even after encouragement from many teachers, relatives and friends. I always thought I had to publish on paper and didn’t feel I had enough words or audience for it.

My biggest blessing in blogging is knowing that I reached someone who desperately needed reaching. Long story, but the last person I ever expected to read it and try to change her marriage found my blog, read it for months, and made the decision to work on her marriage. God used so many winding roads to make it happen, but it did, and the glory is all His.

Loved watching your vlog … I hate even leaving phone messages on recording, so nix on that idea for me! You are brave! Terrific job, and ultimately genuine. Thank you!

    • Amanda says:

Amy I agree with you. It is such a blessing to be sharing our story and know that God is using it to touch others. To draw them, and speak to them. It’s humbling and thrilling and motivating all at the same time.

  8. Amy says:

Ah I love your video so much. It’s so true that God is writing our stories, and ultimately, we are put on this earth to give glory to Him and Him alone. I love what you said about feeling like God is pursuing us. You’re right, there’s nothing better than that! Thank you for the sweet encouragement today :)

    • Amanda says:

Thank you so much Amy! There’s such a peace that comes with knowing that God is at work in our lives, even through the pain and frustration. Thank you for your sweet encouragement!

  9. I love the direction you took this prompt girlfriend. I love that you said that this whole thing is His story. You are so well spoken and just lovely.

    • Amanda says:

Thank you! I felt like I hijacked the prompt – but it really is what first came to mind when I read the prompt last week. Thanks for hosting this link up – I really want to participate a little more often!

  10. leah says:

oh i loved watching your video! you are so genuine and can totally tell. i love the direction you took and especially your learning that God is writing a story to give Him glory. So completely awesome!

  11. aw it was so good to see your face in action again. hee hee, if that makes sense. I love how you believe so strongly that God is using your story to influence others. he truly is. and your story isnt finished. He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it… I am also reminded of Romans 8:28-
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.////in one way or another, God is working those things out for your good. We can’t always see it, but in the meantime keep inspiring others. Somehow when we go through things, in the midst of that, if we focus on God and loving on ppl, it gives us purpose beyond what we can think of ourselves at that time… love you!

  12. Pamela says:

  13. Chelsea says:

Your vlog was so eloquent and well-said! You’re so right about making lasting friendships before ever meeting face to face… and about how our story is all being written for the glory of God. I loved this vlog so much!

  14. annie says:

i agree with you! it’s crazy how i’ve made such strong friendships through blogging. that’s definitely a lesson i’ve learned as well: God can work some mighty miracles through this online space. He can use our stories for our good, for each other’s good, and for His matchless glory, even when we feel like we’re throwing the words out into the middle of nowhere. I love this video, Amanda!

    • Amanda says:

He is definitely up to something big! I want the world to see HIM, to be drawn to HIM through this platform we call blogging. I love that our stories are being written for more than just us. For the edification of others, but more importantly, for HIS glory.

  15. Sarah C. says:

My heart goes out to you. Your response to God’s story is a beautiful thing. :)

  16. So nice to “meet” you today (this was my first visit). Blogging, and Christian Blogging is specific, has been a wonderful community for making connections to some awesome women who are encouraging and Christ-centered. I look forward to reading more of you in the future.

    • Amanda says:

Thank you for stopping by, Shannon! It is so exciting to see how God is going to use women to make HIS name known through blogging! What an honor, right?

  17. Stacy says:

Awe! Amanda! I just love to hear you share your heart. All of those lessons are so true that you shared. I recently met a friend through blogging & we were texting just today how we would love to go to a blog conference one day & be roomies. She is in San Diego & I’m in North Louisiana….What are some good ones? I’m not far from Dallas either and would have loved to go to Blissdom, but looks like I’m too late. Can’t wait to hear all about it! :-)

  18. Moriah Sunde says:

Dang, your vlog is way more professional than the one I did on my iphone in my pajamas. haha Love your heart, Amanda! You have so much wisdom to share with our community!

  19. You are so BEAUTIFUL Amanda. Both inside and out. I just love your heart. Loved listening to you speak about blogging, and your (His) story of your life… So right on. So so right on. ♥
