Our Thanksgiving Day Gender Reveal Party

This Thanksgiving will likely go down as one of the most memorable Thanksgivings for our family. Not only did we enjoy expressing our gratitude and sharing in fellowship and thanksgiving, but we also discovered, along with many of our dearly-loved family members, that our surprise miracle baby is…

(Many of you saw this on Instagram last Thursday!)

We were so excited to find out that we’re having a little boy! What an exciting new chapter of our lives that we’re about to experience, we are so thankful for the new life that has been entrusted to us.

Finding out the gender of our baby right alongside our family was an incredible experience, we loved getting to be surprised all together. Our parents, most of our siblings, nieces, nephews, my grandma, and several of my aunts and uncles were all present to experience our gender reveal party. It was an incredible Thanksgiving Day, which was made especially wonderful by finding out about our little mister.

I hope you don’t mind me sharing some of my gender reveal party ideas. I had so much fun planning the reveal, and thanks to Pinterest is was super easy to throw together. Hosting the reveal on Thanksgiving helped keep the cost low, since there was already plenty of food to go around.

Voting with a Bow

I found this idea from Pepper Design Blog on Pinterest, and I thought it was perfect for “voting” on Baby E.’s gender. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law helped me create little bows (using this tutorial), and those who thought Baby E. would be a girl wore the bow as a hair piece, and those who thought Baby E. would be a boy wore it as a bow tie.

We also asked our family to suggest baby names. I made pink and blue “Hello My Name Is _________” cards and they cast their vote by suggesting a name. Some suggested serious names, others suggested not-so-serious names. It was fun to read the suggestions and there were some that were quite humorous.

I did provide a list of old wives tales for them to look over before they voted. I don’t put a lot of stock into old wives tales, but it was fun to see how accurate they were!

Gender Reveal Treasure Hunt

Since the day wasn’t all about Baby E., we enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner, then visiting and fellowship for a couple of hours. I found this idea from Through Clouded Glass, and planned a fun activity that took our family on a little treasure hunt throughout my parent’s house. Each clue led to another clue, and the final clue led to where our baby gift bag was hidden.

I’m not much of an artist, but I am awfully pleased with how each of my clues turned out. Can you guess where each clue led?

Gender Reveal Nursery Rhyme Treasure Hunt

The well-known nursery rhymes served as clues, and the family had fun trying to figure what the clue was, and where the next clue was hidden.

Revealing with an outfit

The “prize” at the end of the treasure hunt was the gift bag in which was wrapped the gender-specific outfit my husband and I had picked out. The two of us were still in the dark about Baby E.’s gender, and if you want to know how we pulled that off, I explained our highly detailed plan in this post.

There are many frustrations that come with infertility, testing, and treatments. I was often frustrated by the fact that there were rarely any surprises, and many of our friends and family knew an awful lot about our reproductive cycle. When we found out we were pregnant, I knew immediately that I wanted to get to experience this big surprise with as many of our family members as possible, and I’m so glad we did!

Gender Reveal Cake

A sweet friend of mine made a gluten-free pink and blue cake for us since we didn’t know Baby E.’s gender. Wendy created a beautiful cake that added just a bit of baby excitement to our otherwise traditional Thanksgiving dessert table.

My mother-in-law crocheted these sweet little cowboy boots, and was prepared to give a pair to her first granddaughter or her first grandson.

Our gender reveal party was (for us!) the highlight of our Thanksgiving, and I will always be so thankful that we were able to share that moment with so many of our family members. My heart is overflowing with joy and excitement at becoming a boy mom!

  13. Oh I am so excited for you! I have a boy and a girl and they are each fun in different ways. You didn’t ASK for it, but I’m going to offer you this piece of parenting advice. Make sure the fire hose is pointed straight down when you change his diaper. If is pointed to either side, you will get a leak! I loved the nursery rhyme clues. Your handwriting should be a font!

After three boys I am maybe a little biased – little boys are just the bestest {but you know I would have been happy with whatever God blessed us with}. I am so excited for you and the way you did your gender reveal is awesome!! Love it! So happy for you both! xoxo
